If you missed the boat the first time, you are lucky because the ombré trend is back! Whether looking on the runways, at celebrities, or walking across the street, it's becoming more & more impossible to not see someone with this hairstyle.
What's Ombré hair? It is a hairstyle where the color gradually changes color. Mostly, it changes from dark to light (you don't need to worry about your roots anymore!). In most cases, brunettes bleach their ends for lighter color. Finally, a trend that doesn't require a busy woman to run to the salon every 8 weeks for a touch-up!!
I just love this trend! It's perfect for the summer and it looks great with a tan. It lightens up your hair and gives it a natural beachy look without looking fake. It's been spotted on plenty A-list celebs: Jessica Biel, Rachel Bilson, Lily Aldridge, Lauren Conrad, the Kardashians...
Tips: Try to choose shades that will complements your skin tones and decide how severe you want to go. The look ranges from subtle and natural to very edgy and dramatic.
You can either go to the salon or do it yourself at home (L'Oréal). As for me, I went to the salon. Since I have medium/tan skin, I ask my colourist for golden blond and lots of sun-kissed highlights, concentrating on the ends, and not higher than my chin.
Here's the result:
Price: approx. $140 (Ombre/haircut/shampoo&finish)
Hair salon: Industria - 1 Place Ville-Marie, Galeries Level, Montréal H3B 3Y1, 514-397-0951
Review: Industria is definitely a hip & funky salon. The clientele is a mix between young urban & business professionals. I was kind of desperate the first time I went there. It was a last minute thing for an event and I couldn't find a hair salon without appointment. I remember this salon near my office that would probably have no one on weekends. I decided to give it a try. To be honest, when I first saw this tattooed/pierced punk guy introduced himself as my hairdresser, I was like ''hell no, he won't touch my hair!'' But since I was really desperate and running late, I told him that I wanted Kim Kardashian's hair and nothing else. Ever since that day, I've been going to this hair salon and asking for the tattooed guy.
One last thing, the biggest issue with ombré is that you are lightening the ends of the hair which are the most fragile and prone to damage or dryness. Try to use hair products rich in vitamins that are cream-based. As for me, I really REALLY like Shiseido Moist Hair Pack Shampoo & Conditioner. These are for dry and over treated hair. They work from the scalp to hair ends to strengthen brittle strands, eliminate split ends, and soften dry, coarse, over-processed hair. It is one of the best shampoo that I have ever used.
Price: $20 each
I usually buy them online or when I go to NYC
PS: Is it me --- or does the ombré hair really look best on brunettes?
