Be healthy: Green Smoothie obsession

Jumping on the green smoothie train

If I say 'green smoothie', do you say:
a) eh?
b) yummy
c) ewww

Seriously, my first impression was "ewwww! I could never drink that. That's disgusting."  Wrong. Green smoothies are something you have to ease into (for most people, anyway). If you use the right greens, you really can only taste the fruits. I promise.

Meet Kale, my new friend with benefits.

Okay, so if Kale is a trend, it's a great one to have. The benefits? Plenty! Low calories, zero fat, high in fibre, iron, Vitamin K, A, C, great anti inflammatory food. Personally, I prefer to use Kale in my green smoothie recipes over spinach because kale helps cut the sweetness of the fruit and delivers more than twice the recommended daily value of calcium than spinach.

I tend to have a green smoothie every morning before work. Here are my suggestions:
  • Choose your base: water, fresh made juice
  • Chose your green: kale, spinach, parsley
  • Choose your fruit: bananas, mangos, pineapples, lemons, apples, pears, berries, etc...

I find that having a green smoothie helps my energy in the morning. It's quick, healthy and easy to drink.

Happy smoothie-ing, folks!
